minute and 30 second sequence prior to the first scene - in this opening you get all of the emotions of the series without ever being cheated by the melody. Evangelion is certainly not the best anime ever, but its opening sequence is inarguably the most perfectly portrayed.

prevalent opinion is that Evangelion is a very good series but nothing more than that. Am I the only one thinking that Eva is the most incredible anime ever made and that no other anime series can even come close to its perfection?
