true. the siamese 400 was big trouble. our friend had a boat with twin 400's and they had leaky gaskets all the time, one engine finally fucked its self some how and its in pieces up in NH, if you watch one of my mustang videos at the end i look a shelves with engine parts and most of it is one
of the 400's

just for the hell of it i suppose, what guy does not want somthing bigger? So you say if you have a 396 but you have the possibility of getting a 454 that can out perform the 396 you wouldn't take
it instead?

Unless your going to be using that extra 58 cubic inches, I don't see the point, that's all. I understand the point of the "oh yea, I have a big engine," but why have a big engine if your
never going to use it? If you were planning on doing a little drag for fun or something then I can understand, but if your just a cruiser, why spend the extra cash? That's my only point. It's just something to think on.

bolt is a waste of money on a mild rebuild, better to check the bores and buy factory bolts. Good bolts do not make up for sloppy assembly.

uh what u mean by steam holes? and he took great care of em' they were HO engines for a big fishing boat that had a large cabin down below, it was a small cruiser sorta, but yeah the gaskets often popped and a
cylinder would leak or water would leak into the cylinders.

I see that the block is stamped "327". Forgive me, I'm a Ford guy, but just asking, is the 327 and the 350 block the same in dimensions usually? If so, do they all have 327 stamped on them? Thanks for your input
in advance. Just trying to learn a little more general knowlege stuff.

350s and 327s use the exact same block with the same sized bore. The difference in the cubic inches comes from the stroke. The 327 stroke is smaller, i think it is 3.25 inches off the top of my head. The stamp is just to identify between
the two

Cool, thanks buddy. I just did a little reading on wikidedia (never wrong right?) and read up on the specs. Cool to learn that the Chevy 302
was from taking the 283 crank and putting it in the 327/350 block. Interesting.

Finger acid won't hurt the bearings. They're made to handle stress, and I HIGHLY DOUBT acids from skin contact will damage em. As for the cleaning. I'm sure they forgot to mention that...But any good machine shop will clean the block thoroughly for you. & The oil passages are fine

Hi im a newbie when it comes to Engine rebuilding but how
exactly do you wash the block? and crank?? i assumed the machine shop did that already for you? and the oil passages im assuming you clear them with air pressure??

The video shows that bearing Tang must
be on same side of engine block. But Tang holes does'nt mate when assembled even their in the same side.

Can somebody explain the purpose of the Tang. Was it for lubrication? So that oil trapped on Tang and act
as oil reservoir or its only a marker?

It just locks the
bearings so they don't rotate or slides of to one of the sides.
