Tsubasa wo Kudasai is actually a old Japanese Song from I dunno how long ago. I heard it back in the 70s and 80s during the Red & White Festivals (which we used to get on TV in Hawaii due to the large Japanese presence here) but it didn't really take off mainstream until K-ON & Eva 2.0 did versions of it. (It was a part of the Eva 2.22 movie... and K-ON did 2 versions of it on their Music CDs.)

I was told this is a really old childrens song that is sung in elementary schools. Some of the Japanese cried during this scene in the theaters when the song started playing. Really beautiful timing on Anno's
and Sagisu's part.
