When i saw the trailer i had such a desire to watch the movie. The music, the setting, plot, the scenes of colours and nature, the off voice and the quotes. The idea is simple. But the outwork is brilliant. Many movies which deal with life and existence exist, Popular films are more like stories in form of a
drama or tragic drama. This movie is different cuz of the change of scenes, the long intervals of scenes w/o plot. And WTF? am 17 &the movie isnt only for old people! age doesnt matter!

The more thumbs ups the neem gets the more satisfied I am, one of those is mine. The day that I get the majority giving me the tumbs up over someone else is the day that I've failed. Right now, I'm riding high. I don't want to get far in life either, tired of all that comparing this to my neighbour's that. Don't criticise a film because you haven't understood your *own* level of understanding. Images move so quickly relative to the speed at which our other senses process information that the image-laden society we live in passes us by, ergo, truth passes us by. If you ever watch it again, allegorise the meaning with experiences you
can relate to and it'll probably make more sense. I haven't seen it so can't say anything of the actual film ;o)

I knew what your response would be, I was just putting an idea out to everyone to help the understanding of the ideas of the film to grow ;o) If it wasn't for the intellectual elite, we'd be starting trying

The simplest explanations are always the best right? I liked ;o) To clarify again, I've not seen the film itself yet, but I fully intend to check it out and will probably appreciate it sooner with a better understanding of what it is meant to signify. Lastly, I'd recommend a book to all called 'The Ghost in the Machine' by Arthur Koestler. Written in the 1960's it was well ahead of it's time. I read it years ago, and have been slowly
re-reading it since.

In fact Koestler specifically used the tree as an image for his attempts to explain and understand his knowledge. That is the only reason why the title of the film caught my eye

Looks like a fascinating book and will certainly check it out. The
idea of the Neembus caveboy types having influence over an evolving intellectual, logical mind is a frightening theory, but interesting nonetheless.

Great analysis. I think the way Malick cast Sean Penn was the
only weak point in the film and why I can only give this film 97 out of 100 rather than the full 100. It was a bit airy fairy, even Penn admitted he wasn't quite sure about it, but the sentiment is there. What a powerful and beautiful quote that is at the start of the film. Sublime stuff.

perhaps in the family, each member is a part of ones self. Perhaps, he was reconciling all the members of the family within himself. I like the scene of the removal of the mask (s), the personas, the hypocrite within himself. The story of the Tree of Life, and the 'to be understood' way of living in The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil as personified by the father. The burning of the skull, like Skull Hill (Calvary), could have denoted his
'stripes' which were healed.
