Paris is the capital city of France. It is situated on the River Seine, in northern France, at the heart of the
Île-de-France region ("Région parisienne"). Paris has an estimated population of 2,153,600 within its administrative limits. An important settlement for more than two millennia, Paris is today one of the world's leading business and cultural centres, and its influence in politics, education, enter
tainment, media, fashion, science and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities. The Paris Region (Île-de-France) is France's foremost centre of economic activity. Paris is the most popular tourist destination in the world, with over 30 million foreign visitors
per year. There are numerous iconic landmarks among its many attractions, along with world famous institutions and popular parks. City of Paris: * Place de la Bastille being one of the most historic districts, being a location of an essential event of not only Paris, but the whole country of France
. Because of its historical value the square is often used for political demonstrations, including the massive anti-CPE demonstration of March 28, 2006. * Champs-Élysées is a seventeenth century garden-promenade turned avenue connecting the Concorde and Arc de Triomphe. It is one of the many touri
st attractions and a major shopping street of Paris. This avenue has been called "la plus belle avenue du monde" ("the most beautiful avenue in the world"). * Place de la Concorde is at the foot of the Champs-Élysées, built as the "Place Louis XV", site of the infamous guillotine. The Egyptian obe
lisk is Paris' "oldest monument". On this place, on the two side of the Rue Royale live two identical stone buildings: the eastern houses the French Naval Ministry, the western the luxurious Hôtel de Crillon. Nearby Place Vendôme is famous for its fashionable and deluxe hotels (Hotel Ritz and Hôt
el de Vendôme) and its jewellers. Many famous fashion designers have had their salons in the square. * Les Halles was formerly Paris' central meat and produce market, since the late 1970s a major shopping centre around an important metro connection station (Châtelet-Les Halles, the biggest in Euro
pe). The past Les Halles was destroyed in 1971 and replaced by the Forum des Halles. The central market of Paris, the biggest wholesale food market in the world, was transferred to Rungis, in the southern suburbs. * Le Marais is a trendy Right Bank district. With large gay and Jewish populations it
is a very culturally open place. * Avenue Montaigne, next to the Champs-Élysées, is home to luxury brand labels such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton (LVMH), Dior and Givenchy. * Montmartre is a historic area on the Butte, home to the Basilica of the Sacré Coeur. Montmartre has always had a history with
artists and has many studios and cafés of many great artists in that area. * Montparnasse (14th arrondissement) is a historic Left Bank area famous for artists studios, music halls, and café life. The large Montparnasse - Bienvenüe métro station and the lone Tour Montparnasse skyscraper are
located there. * L'Opéra is the area around the Opéra Garnier is a home to the capital's densest concentration of both department stores and offices. A few examples are the Printemps and Galeries Lafayette grands magasins (department stores), and the Paris headquarters of financial giants such as
Crédit Lyonnais and American Express. The Louvre is one of the largest and most famous museums, housing many works of art, including the Mona Lisa (La Joconde) and the Venus de Milo statue. Works by Pablo Picasso and Rodin are found in Musée Picasso and Musée Rodin respectively, while the artisti
c community of Montparnasse is chronicled at the Musée du Montparnasse. Starkly apparent with its service-pipe exterior, the Centre Georges Pompidou, also known as Beaubourg, houses the Musée National d'Art Moderne. Lastly, art and artefacts from the Middle Ages and Impressionist eras are kept in
Musée Cluny and Musée d'Orsay respectively, the former with the prized tapestry cycle The Lady and the Unicorn. Many of Paris' once-popular local establishments have metamorphised into a parody of French culture, in a form catering to the tastes and expectations of tourist capital. Le Lido, The M
oulin Rouge cabaret-dancehall, for example, are a staged dinner theatre spectacle, a dance display that was once but one aspect of the cabaret's former atmosphere. All of the establishment's former social or cultural elements, such as its ballrooms and gardens, are gone today. Much of Paris' hotel,
restaurant and night entertainment trades have become heavily dependent on tourism, with results not always positive for Parisian culture.

Just shut up. You don't know what you're talking about. I live in Paris, and have lived there all my life. It's the most visited city in the world. By far. If it stank ALL OVER the city, there'd be nobody there. Just think before making such stupid comments. Does it also stink in the perfume shops? In the rstaurants? In the parks?
You frigging moron. Plus you come from a country that can't even feed its own people. Poor losers.

business" wtf? Check the real numbers, dude, and dont forget to check the "ile-de-France" stats and not only Paris intra muros... For exemple, La Defense is, by far, the N°1 business district in Europe... For Exemple, Paris is N°1 in the world for Trade fairs and exhibitions... For exemple, th

You think that Paris is not a global city? Really? Many surveys on that subject, and Paris is there. The last one (World City Survey) made in UK (French dont care of making surveys like that), NY is N
°1 with 151 points, London and Paris are second with 149 points, Tokyo is N°4 with 144 and LA is N°5 with 122.

When you are in Paris or where ever you are, say a prayer for Paris and France. France especially and her magnificent city really need it. Read the 'Proph
éties de Marie-Julie'. See why the Sacre Coeur was constructed and what is awaiting this city, especially Paris and France. All friends of Paris and France, Priez pour la France, Merci.

That's crazy to write this! Have you been in France at least once? If
your are as young as you pretend in any case you have yet a long way to grow up. Take advantage of this long long time to travel in France or anywhere. At least you will be able to express your own expenrience and not on hersay of the son of the brother of your janitor. Ha ha! Normally you will
see prejudices and clichés to disappear quickly. Pardon my French hem my English. Ha ha.

Yes, it's widely available what will happen to Paris (capital of once the greatest Christian nation), written by french prophets and saints themselves. A lot have happened, now there's no way back. The only wise option to undo the great punishment awaiting Paris,
France and Europe is through prayer, pray for the conversion of french people. Paris is the finest city one can imagine, centre of france, however it's ruled now by un-Godly forces.

Honni soit qui mal y pense! :=)) Of course London is an irreplaceable town. Yes she is (I think she) quite different of Paris and she has another charm and a huge power. But to say : "Oh Paris is a magnificent city in the world" does'nt mean, for instance,London is not

Friends of mine just got back from Paris, and they said the streets smelled of "pee"! They loved London because it is just such a clean city, but Paris smelled like pee! Maybe they need to
clean the city more! . . , just what I heard!

@hereHehere There are parking garages below ground in the center which cost about 30 euro per day. In
the streets in downtown it might take you quite a while before you find a place and in downtown these places might be reserved for inhabitants. I'm not so keen on driving in big cities but Paris wasn't as bad as I expected.
