as 2.0. Probably because they didn't want to wreck everything twice.
explain this to someone who hasn't seen evangelion before just for the sake of it being a quick explanation I'd reference them as robots.

without giving an (admittedly minor) spoiler, I suppose.
Evangelion", we know they're alive from the outset.
haven't seen it and don't want to explain it to them - to just refer to them as robots. It's sort of simpler than having to explain how they're not really typical mecha, and when you try to explain it you end up dancing with danger in terms of avoiding spoilers.

Ergo you can call it a giant 'robot' althought by definition it is a cyborg.
of their armor they look like robots generely it's not wrong to call the mechas or robot but some prefer to not call them this
