    well I have to admit there aren't many tough bosses in the 2D and 3D Platformers like you say. But if you want a game with tough bosses try the Mario RPG's (The Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi series). Also the super mario galaxy series also have
     some tough bosses (near the end)
