I actually think the opening is fitting the anime perfectly. It has that nostalgic, reminiscent tone that reminds of good old times, now long gone. It describes pretty well what Guts is going through, as he
said himself more than once in the anime - "My place really was here. I was too foolish and stubborn to notice. But, what I truly hoped for then was here... Why do I always realize it.. When I've already lost it..."

I wish they kept going with the original series if they actually followed the manga. The Golden Age Arc had a
few scenes cut and reworked for the anime. The old style used here to me fits the series than some expensive CG touches here and there. Then again, I could be wrong.

Yes the manga is better in the sense that the tv show only covers about 10% of the manga.
But the manga is great if you have the time for it.
